Ryans Road

116Project No. 6526

BE Collective was recently commissioned by Tonic Design to provide structural and hydraulic services for a low-set commercial development in Nundah.

Previously a motorcycle shed and car workshop – the building was in poor condition, and had seen staggered aesthetic and structural changes and additions over its life time.

The transformation from run down workshop to glamorous commercial space was facilitated through a gutting of the existing structure followed by the addition of timber petitions on the front. A large wooden deck was added around the front of the building, along with large windows to increase street appeal and openness.

Large portions of the original wooden decking were treated and retained with great aesthetic results, complimented by exposed timber work in the ceiling.

Columns and load bearing elements had to be removed to comply with strong design guidelines, enabling the BEC team to stretch our creative problem solving skills.

An additional toilet and a kitchenette for each space required hydraulic planning and plumbing works, including a new grease trap and trade waste system which was cleverly hidden below the deck.
