Inwood Street

Project No. 6076

The Inwood St project is a small residential addition which is simply a visual delight. Another wonderful project by Aardvarc, the project features:

  • a green roof
  • decorative, textured off-form concrete walls
  • architectural steel work

BE Collective undertook finite element analysis in order to make the roof thickness and profile as slender as possible. The dominant roof form appears to float unsupported due to the placement and slenderness of load-bearing elements. Every structural component of this project was exhaustively refined and integrated to provide the optimal architectural outcome, with an amazing result.

An artistic collection of recycled materials are creatively incorporated into the project, eg cast-iron toilet cisterns (used as down-pipe headers) and antique softdrink bottles as a innovative method of sealing concrete tie-rod holes.

We are extremely proud of the project outcome.

The project has now featured in multiple publications, and has been recognised with a commendation at the 2015 AIA Brisbane Awards.
