hit1BE Collective Managing Director John Tuxworth visited Papua New Guinea early in 2011 for an inspection during the construction phase of one of our projects. Some networking also introduced John to a young engineer, Arua Hitolo.

Arua is a father of three. He graduated from PNG’s Lae University with a degree in Civil Engineering, and recently established his own consultancy practice. Arua’s motivation in establishing his business was to pay the mounting medical bills for his adopted daughter Angela. Just last Friday, we then had the opportunity to visit  Arua & Angela at the Mater Childrens Hospital in Brisbane, to offer our best wishes to the little girl as she recovers from her latest brain surgery. Angela has a congenital defect which results in a terminal pressure build up in the brain. At only 3 years old this Angela’s 3rd operation. This most recent operation was required to relocate the permanent stent draining excess blood from her skull and relieve pressure on her brain.

As brain surgery is not a readily available specialisum in PNG the Hitolo Family have clocked up something like $50k in medical and associated travel expenses. The Mater has kindly agreed to manage individual donations directly in support of the family’s hospital expenses.

It is likely that you will have been impacted in some way, and possibly also inundated with requests for support, as a result of the flooding in Queensland, Victoria & NSW, or by the cyclone in North & Far North Qld in 2011. Despite these recent terrible events, it is evident we are one of the most prosperous nations with living conditions superior to the majority of the world. It is from this perspective that we propose a donation to aid the Hitolo Family with their increasing debt. If you are able, please do make a donation directly to the Mater:
